Look Around Your World Pretty Baby, Is It Everything You Hoped It’d Be? (2019)

Wooden panels, desk, chair and stationery, painted and drawn upon
1.5 × 1 m

This work forms part of Little Boy Hiding in the Big, Bad World, an ongoing body of work that uses childhood references to explore the world we create and leave behind. Drawings move across the panels, desk, chair and stationery, bringing together recurring characters, symbols and ideas that appear throughout the wider series. The stationery pieces can be removed and repositioned, encouraging viewers to search for their place within the busy cityscape. In their absence, gaps are left behind, drawing attention to what is missing as well as what remains. Through playful interaction and close observation, the work encourages reflection on growing up, learning, and the messages we pass on to future generations.
